Authors/Editors: Brian Sserunjogi (PhD)

Abstract:

Livestock contributes about 4.2 percent of Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 17.3 percent of Agricultural GDP (MFPED 2018). The subsector also provides livelihood to about 4.5 million people in the country (UBoS 2015). Despite, its national importance, the sector’s annual growth has significantly declined from 2.9 percent in 2014/15 to 1.6 percent in 2016/17 and 2.0 percent by FY 2017/18. Cattle are the major livestock in Uganda and account for 74 percent of the country’s total livestock.
